  1. Hi Matt. I agree with your idea of the value of making mistakes. I ran into a variation of that recently: I was on vacation on Waikiki (from Wisconsin) and stumbled upon a kanikapila right on the edge of the beach. I overcame my hesitation and sat in. Wow! Couldn’t keep up, couldn’t find the chords, surely couldn’t deal with the mid-song key changes. Never had a better time while making mistakes. Got a great assessment of how far I have to go, but it was self-assessment, not from anyone in the group. So I can take the energy, the fun of that and better understand what I need to practice. Lots of mistakes…lots of learning.
