Course: Soloing / Flatpicking Techniques
Skill Level: Intermediate Lessons
Instructor: Aldrine Guerrero
When I try this is just dulls my A string, I don’t get the constant tone like in your video. What could the reason? Do you have a different type of string? I am using Aquila Nylgut on a concert uke. Thanks.
You might want to check out some of these videos for more in depth explanations and added tips. In Ukulele Webcam Sessions (Ep.7) – Ukulele Expression Tricks at 7:15 into the video, Matt goes over Hammer-ons. In Ukulele 101 – Picking at 8:15 Aldrine also goes over Hammer-ons. Lastly in this Thursday Live Lesson- Replay at 26:45 into the video, Aldrine reviews hammer-ons and answers different questions about them. Hopefully you’ll find a pointer or idea in one of these videos that will help with your technique. If you are still having trouble with hammer-ons, its less likely because of your strings. The more likely cause is the action on your ukulele. The closer your strings are to the fretboard, the harder it is to hammer on. Again, I hope some of this can be useful for you. Good luck and happy hammer-ons!
