Fingerpicking Rhythm

In this uke minute, you’ll be learning the basics of Fingerpicking Rhythm. Fingerpicking is a very popular technique on the ukulele so it’s important to learn the basics of rhythm.

Just like with strumming, when fingerpicking, you can assign each note to a beat. A standard measure in 4 / 4 timing with quarter notes is:

1 – 2 – 3 – 4 –

But just like with strumming, we can adjust the tempo and play 1/8th notes instead and play:

1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &

You can even break it down even further and play 1/16th notes

1 e & a 2 e & a 3 e & a 4 e & a

and assign each note to these beats.
