I’ll be the fanboy and say that my favorite strings are the AGxAQs. They are higher tension and slicker than the normal Aquilas. I’ve played with Uke Logic and I like them but I got the high tension and they were like cables. I’ll have to try their non-high tension and see if I like them. They slide super well and sound good though. Stick with Aldrine’s they seem to be the best of all worlds for me right now. I play them on both my tenor and my super concert.
I’ll be joining you both on the 27th. I know there will be some great vendors in the hall. Don’t forget to go up to Aloha Warehouse. They have some amazing ukuleles as well (and awesome ramen right next door!
I’ve become quite a Kanile’a fan boy. I love the sound, the feel and the are absolutely beautiful!
It’s fantastic that you posted this. I learn so much from other people’s questions. It also helps to reinforce my perspective about what wonderful people participate with Ukulele Underground Plus. Thanks everyone for sharing.
There is a fantastic ramen place right next door and the owner is a wonderful woman who makes you feel like the trip was worth it. I’m down in Half Moon Bay and I go up for the ramen and to talk story .
I’m just down in Half Moon Bay. There are some groups in San Francisco that you could connect with, I know that Cynthia Lin is up there and she’s wonderful. You might want to go into Aloha Warehouse and ask them about local resources. It’s a family run place with a great collection of Ukes for sale and the woman that runs the place is an absolute delight.
My experience is that Ukulele Underground is an unparalleled resource to learn techniques and music theory as well as individual songs. Taking that to a group setting is a lot of fun .
Good luck and keep strumming. I hope we run into one another.
Steve, I have the Kanilea super concert and like it very much. I enjoy the sound of the concert body and the larger fret board. the one thing that I stumble over with it, though, is that the weight imbalance. The longer neck pulls it down a little. I still love it but sometimes wonder whether I should have just gotten a tenor and had done with it. the sound is awesome. I’m a big fan of Kanilea sound.
