Chris Salvador came through from Kanilea. Mahalo! This clubhouse is a ghosttown.

    Ivy,
Try using the fleshy nail part of the thumb, not the tip, on your upstroke. Also, I practice curling the pointer finger over the thumb and flicking the thumb past to build strength. I’m sure Aldrine has many better tips for this. 🙂

The reason why the head moves out is because your thumb or hand behind the neck applies pressure that is not countered by your fingers during your chord change. It is really not unusual or bad. you can either get used to it or cradle the neck between your thumb and pointer finger (fleshy part of the hand). I would not recommend this because it will limit your ability to reach certain chords but there it is.

I would try a Koa Pili Koko Tenor. These are modestly priced instruments and are good quality. If price is no object, try a tenor in any of the 5 K’s.
