I’ve been working on rhythm, timing and phrasing lately and have been practicing counting beats out loud as I work on songs — either when just listening to them or when practicing.
One thing I’ve noticed is that sometimes I end up counting at double-time or half-time, counting 8th notes instead of quarter notes for example. This happened to me with “No Woman No Cry” when you started explaining the rhythm pattern I had been counting twice as many beats as were shown in the tutorial. Any ideas what I should do differently? Does it matter as long as I’m consistent?
Another related question, do you think it helps to count out beats when practicing riffs or melody lines as well?
