MemberFor anyone reading this I’m only logging practice. Aldrine doesn’t consider having fun playing your ukulele practice. 😉
Yellow bird off an on all day. I can get through the song but it’s not clean enough for me yet.
Multi string D and E practice. This is going to take me awhile.

Walked into Dusty Strings Fremont District in Seattle as I wanted to handle some K Ukulele’s, Pono’s and Martins. I thought the Pono’s sounded better than the Martin’s and the Kamaka’s. This one sounded even better than the $2600 Kamaka. At $1050 I thought this was a great tenor to move me through intermediate play. Interesting in that Pono puts a wound C string on their tenor ukes. It gives it a rich tone and quality. Aldrine was right in how bright and loud sounding the Ko’olau design is compared to a Koa Kamaka.
My intent going into the store was to make Xmas suggestions. I was surprised when my wife asked which one I liked best and then walked it over to the counter. No gentlemen she doesn’t have any sisters. 😉

Watching Bridging the Gap with Craig Chee – Working on C scale memory and speed. Short lesson that takes a while to complete.
haven’t protected Yellow Bird yet but want to move off it for awhile. Watched Mac the Knife and will begin learning it

MemberNew Dexterity Test 9/18/17
Worm 2.5 (Respectable; but I question if all on test one and all of test 2 are clean) My experience is that people, including myself tend to over rate themselves
Strumming 20 ( I feel I over rated on 8/2) This 20 was solid. I found a mindset of speed makes a difference here
Picking 55 (Solid improvement!)
C Scale 6 (50% improvement. I had 3 misses I didn’t count)
Chord switching 52 (Dramatic Improvement)September 19, 2017 at 2:00 pm #17532cwaggon

Watched Wipe Out Video – May be a goo song for me to practice tremolo
Watched Matt’s new video on Brown Eye Girl – Played around a bit with the left hand finger technique he suggest but doesn’t use
Found and experimented with some stretches for my left Thumb that seem to be helping.-

MemberMack the Knife was a fun song to learn. I will definitely keep that as one to enjoy. Gotta work that pinky mute for the second time through though.

MemberLast night worked on left hand grip changes discussed in live coaching to address the pain in my left thumb. The new grip has forced me to move to more multi string chording (a good thing). Will start practice up again today. Will focus on getting ready for live mike and Uke 102 Week 2 homework this week.

MemberTook wife out to dinner. Tried the UUU102 – Week 2 practice.just now. Feel guilty because I’m too drunk to meet Aldrine’s definition of practice tonight.
Practiced my secret open mic song instead, which I can play drunk if needed.
Cheers

UU 102 Week 2 homeworkSeptember 25, 2017 at 1:34 pm #17653cwaggon
MemberWhat I love about this program is that practice accumulates into something real. As I learn new thing I approach old songs in a different way.
Practiced Open Mic Song(s) Will begin daily 3 times through both tonight.
– Margarittaville will demonstrate strumming pattern, singing while strumming, a small amount of picking, and chunking.
– Mystery song will demonstrate multi-string D chord and its dexterity advantage over the 3 finger D chordStarted on UU 102 Week 2 homework then said, “hey, If I can learn to play the 3 arpeggio patterns I could alternatively apply that energy into 4 patterns that would make a song.” The song is “In my life” by Lennon and McCartney. Yeah those guys. I have pattern 1 down the intro. I almost have pattern 2 down. Pattern 3 will complete the song and Pattern 4 is twist on pattern 1 as the outro. Using the UU approach of break it into parts isolate and learn each part them put it all together I think I can pick this song before the en of October.

MemberI’m a bit distracted with the songs I’m now able to attempt with multi -string chords. I guess that’s a good thing right?
I have the 1st 3 bars of “In My Life” down. I’m close to having the next 5 bars down. -
