    LOG DESCRIPTION:

I’m just writing down what steps I’m taking, issues that pop up during the way or information that I found handy.

Hopefully the log will make the progress more visible for myself.

    Note:
English isn’t my native language so the spelling and sentences might not always be top notch.

    Background

I’m a case of superficial learning delux !

I’ve been playing guitar BUT I did a huge mistake when I started. I ONLY learned fingerpicking-songs and no basics or theory.

My picking developed and it can sound advanced. I’ve never played strumming songs because I sound like a complete beginner.

I don’t want to make the same mistake with the ukulele ! – So here I am!

    Goals

    – Learn step-by-step
    – Have fun – make it about the journey
    – Get frustrated
    – Compare my-self to others
    – Keep away from fingerpicking-songs on the uke
    – Learn some childrens songs to play for my son
    – Learn some reggae

    1 O 1 LESSONS:

    Advice 16 nov -21.

    1. Switching patterns when training to stamp foot and count at the same time. Don’t struggle with one hard to long.

    2. Choose 2-3 song a week to practice. Don’t need to master them or finish them. Next week start with 2-3 new songs.

    – If you get stuck in a song, it might work much better in a few weeks since you develope.

    My practice buddy

I have the best practice buddy. He snatched the ukulele in the mid-lesson. He had to show me how it’s done! Now he knows the names of the strings and the importance of ATF.

“He won’t forget to tap his little foot !”

    Cold-play?

Using a heating pad for the hands while playing ukulele.. just seems so wrong 🤣😂

    Ukulele 100 course

    Lesson 1 & 2:

I’m surprised over how much I was struggling with the smile/frown exercise. It’s a lot of thing going on that I never thought about.

My feet hurts due to tapping!

    Lesson 3 & 4:

Didn’t take long before the foot and head started to cooperate. So things got a bit easier. But I can’t say I master it.

I had to Google Pop Tart – I had no idea what I happily sang along too !

    Lesson 5:

Woops – I got used to play 8 notes while singing Ukulele-Ukulele.. Trying to change it messed me up ! Hehe ! It got increasingly easier when I started to look what my right hand was doing.

“Practice makes better, more practice makes perfect”

    Summary:

I got much more from this course than I thought I would. I’m very glad that I took it and I like that it gave me some sense of direction. I know exactly what exercise I should work on.

    Over and out!

    Ukulele 101 Course

Just some fragmented notes 🎶 from the course:

“My dog has flees. Is the right sound”

Use the ring finger while playing the C-chord.

Relax wrist and relaxed rainbow finger and
hit with the nail-part. Down strum with a natural drop. Up strum, look at the nails.

    Tuning:
    Open A = E5, C9, G2
    Open E = A7, C4, G9
    Open C = A3, E8, G5
    Open G = A10, E3, C7

Reggae – play a bit after the beat..

    Homework:
    Make 3 patterns.
    with at least 3 chords.
    … Done !

    To be continued
