that’s awesome that you beat me to even posting the guidlines. Good job with your song. It was a little hard to see what you played with the C chord, but just based on what I could hear, I actually think you were playing C, C7, G and G7. A 7th chord and a Major 7th chord are actually two different chords. We’ll still count your song for the giveaway, but I just wanted to give you a heads up. It’s a pretty common mistake people make with chords. For the Cmaj7, you would play A string second fret, and for Gmaj7, you would play 2nd fret on C, E, and A string. Major 7th chords kind of sound more “jazzy”. 7th chord (they’re also called dominant 7th chords) are more bluesy, and they are usually used to push the song back to root (G7 to C). Great job again, and I’m sorry if I’m totally wrong. I’m pretty sure I heard you play C7, G7, and G, but I wasn’t 100% sure that C wasn’t a Cmaj7. Thanks again for participating in the challenge!

Thanks Kahai! My intent was to play C, C7 (?) , G, G7 and Gsus4, but I was unclear on the 7th vs. maj 7th. I googled “how to play a song in an open key” and found it’s the white keys on a piano? (my music theory knowledge is almost nonexistent)
I so appreciate your help and support.

yeah, that’s our bad. Looking back on it, I can see how it could be confusing to say “Open Key”. What we really meant was you could use Any Key as long as you use a Major 7th chord. When you googled and found that playing an open key is playing the white keys on the piano they probably thought you were looking for a Key without any sharps or flats (the black keys). This would be the key of C (which is what you played in). There isn’t really such a thing as an open key. C is sometimes thought of being the easiest key to play in since it doesn’t have flat or sharps (there isn’t really an easiest key), so google probably thought that’s what you were looking for.

sorry, I messed up, and made the deadline date for the latest challenge October 18th. It should be the 17th. I hope this doesn’t get in the way of anyone’s plans for the challenge. Aldrine, Aaron and my songs are due on the 10th, so you can see them in a couple weeks. Good luck everyone!October 10, 2019 at 9:25 am #25486October 11, 2019 at 7:10 am #25491kawaiMember
Aaron wins the challenge!!! period. the end. forever!!!!!! Wow!!!!October 14, 2019 at 10:07 am #25503
people usually post their videos as unlisted. You have to manually share Private videos for people to see it. People can watch unlisted videos if they have the link, but they don’t show up publicly on youtube. I’m guessing that’s what you were trying to do. Thanks for participating in the challenge.October 14, 2019 at 10:31 am #25504kerneltimeMemberOctober 14, 2019 at 10:37 am #25508kerneltimeMember
I did not get a chance to practice and recorded the first attempt. Will see if I can get a cleaner play of the song recorded and updated.October 16, 2019 at 11:02 am #25514kawaiMember

Wow ! Everybody is bringing their A game. So Awesome. Also, if you didn’t watch the last Live Lesson, we had to cancel today’s Live Lesson and 1-on-1 Coaching, so we’ll announce the winner to the giveaway next week. If you want to participate in the challenge, we’re extending the deadline to next week. You guys have been doing great, but if anybody wants to write a really basic song, we’ll count that too. The most important thing is to have fun. Again, great job everyone!
