MemberHey Guys,
here’s the new Challenge!
Chords Required:
G & DBonus Points:
Chord Inversions
Lyrics
Reggae
Odd Time Signature (Ex. 3/4 or 6/8)This Challenge might be even easier than the last one. All you have to do is use the chords G and D. Like I was talking about in the Live Lesson, this means that you can use either the key of G Major or D Major. Or you can use a totally different key and use the G and D as substitutions. We’ll be giving away some of Aldrine’s signature strings so good luck!
Aloha,

MemberHere goes nothing. I am very new to playing the ukulele. I actually started about a year ago but only got four lessons in before life took too much time. I just picked it up again a couple of weeks ago. At that point I could only strum once…then sing. (Still not good at either.)
I tried to incorporate some basic percussion, some “ipu heke” percussion, hammering on, and some Hawaiian language into this song.-

MemberOh really nice sdbagpiper! I love that you have percussion. I keep trying it myself but can’t get it quite right. Your hammer-ons sound great too, very natural.

MemberThank you for the compliment. I wanted to do the challenge just to force myself to get a little better. I thought it would be easy to post it knowing that I’m not that good, but it was difficult to put it out there.

MemberHey Guys and Gals,
I”m totally new to posting videos so I have no idea if I did this right. How does everyone else do it?
Anyways…. My daughter, wife and I have been battling “the seasonal sickness” the past couple weeks. That was the inspiration for this song…..and working on my chunks. Sorry about the volume.

MemberHi iseejonathan. Nice song and playing! The chunks sound fine to me, and the volume too. Regarding adding a video, what we usually do is upload it to YouTube (either public or unlisted is fine) and then just paste the link in here. It will automatically be embedded as a playable video.

MemberOk thanks ourmaninjapan, about the chunks and video. If I do another video challenge I’ll try YouTube.

MemberHere’s a little song I worked on for the challenge. I was hoping to find a little more time to add a few more elements into a second verse, but the days got busy as always.
Chicken Town River Walk

MemberWow, great job Kawai and Daniel! I like the 7th chords you used Kawai, and you killed it with the reggae styling Daniel. Everybody did awesome. I feel even more pumped for the next challenge. Everyone is bringing their A game.

MemberI figured I’d better write something for this since it fits taro patch so nicely. I experimented with some themes I have been playing with off and on and tried to add some variation. A few rough spots need to be worked out, and I couldn’t quite decide on the chord progression, I was going for something like G G G G, D D D G, D G but didn’t always hit the tag at the end of each verse. I think I slipped into G G D G, G G D G, D G — a chord pattern I like messing around with — on at least one verse.
Hope you like it — haven’t thought of a name yet:

MemberHey Alan,
I can’t wait for you to release your slack key cd, so I can hear it in all of Hawaii’s airports. Seriously, sounds awesome! It reminds me of the great local guitarist that would go to my dad’s shave ice stand, and play slack key so casually like it’s no big deal.
Aloha,

MemberAlan,
That song is awesome! Love it. Maybe a song name with shave ice in it to honor the slack key greats!March 25, 2019 at 2:20 pm #24183sdbagpiper
