I think I will do my best to post to this log once a week, with a summary of my practice, and then possible goals for the next week.

For this week, I worked on the following:

Song: “How Can I Get Over” by Pure Heart
Warm-Ups: Shake, Inchworm, and Week 4 in Ukulele Aerobics book.
Techniques Reviewed: Mastering Your Fretboard and Week 1 of Uke 101
    Time: Approx. 30 minutes x 7 days

Normally I would shoot for more than 1 song per week, but the reggae strum really trips me up. It was sounding a lot better by the end of the week, but I felt like my rhythm was way off when I tried to play with the video. I think I would drag when switching from D to pinky muted A. I think for next week I want to try to review pinky mutes and barre chords. I switched out the strings on my uke to Worth Browns and it’s slightly easier to hold a barre chord on those, so we’ll see. I want to try to pay more attention to my form there. I think at least one of the songs for next week will be “Banana Pancakes” by Jack Johnson. I haven’t decided on a second one.

This is what I worked on this week::

Songs: “Banana Pancakes” by Jack Johnson and “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran
Warm-Ups: Shake, and Week 5 in Ukulele Aerobics book.
    Techniques Reviewed: Barre chords
Time: Approx. 30 minutes x 6 days + an hour jam

I feel pretty good about my progress on Banana Pancakes. I could almost keep up with the play along video at normal speed, but I’m still struggling with the pinky mutes. I think I need to look into some pinky exercises. I bought a new uke and I’m getting used to holding it. It’s solid wood and heavier than my older cheaper uke. I just got to the chords and strumming on Thinking Out Loud. I think that solo is going to take me a while so I’m going to keep working on it for next week too.

Kinda dropped off posting and kinda dropped off practicing a little bit. I did a couple Songs Made Easy: Valerie and Fallin’ then attempted the regular lesson for Valerie. I’m still struggling with the chords, but I think starting with the Songs Made Easy version first helped kind of get the song in my head before I made it more complicated.

My goal next week is to be a little more focused. Or at least practice every day. I’ve kind of been only managing about 5/7 days since my last post.
