I understand from the instructional videos that there is more than one correct way to do things. I just want to make sure that I am not using a bad technique that will hurt me later. One unorthodox thing that seems to be working for me early on is using my ring finger to barre strings 1 – 3 on the 2nd fret to form a D chord. Similarly, up the neck I am comfortable doing this as a D-Shape Barre chord with my pointer finger two frets behind on the fourth string. I play the strings individually and I seem to be getting decent tone so far. Should I pursue this technique or cease and desist? I really do not enjoy cramming three of my meaty fingers on the first 3 strings on the same fret. Mahalo.
