I’ve been working hard on strumming patterns and chunking. Today I have a blister on the outside of my thumb’s first knuckle from all the chunking in the strumming patterns. What I’m doing sounds and feels right. Is the outside of my thumb a place where I’m suppose to develop a callus or I’m I doing something wrong?

Since you don’t normally use that side of your thumb, a callus is expected. It shouldn’t be too bad though. It shouldn’t be as thick as, say, your fingertips on the left hand. The callus forming on your thumb will make it more comfortable for you in the long run.
