I am the proud owner of a brand new Kanile’a ukulele! (An amazing birthday gift from my brother-in-law, Jim❤️. He also plays a Kanile’a.) I have been taking uke lessons for the past year. I am lucky that my sister and brother-in-law live on the Big Island and I get to visit several times a year, often during uke festivals. We have a rich and active Hawaiian community here in the San Francisco Bay Area, so I also attend kanikapilas and festivals in my own “backyard”. I started playing folk guitar in the 60s, and played often over the years, in my kindergarten classrooms. I took piano lessons as a kid, so learned to read music a little bit. I am looking forward to UU+ and meeting new friends.
