video doesn’t work
I don’t strum with my pointer finger, I strum mainly with my thumb. Can I chuck effectively with a thumb strum? I have arthritis in my pointer finger joint, causing pain when I strum a lot with it, so I use the thumb instead. I can do the roll without any problem using the pointer finger because I’m not constantly banging away with it. Can you explain a way to chuck when thumb strumming, plz?
Hey Silverbeach,
In case you haven’t already seen it, Aldrine answered your question on this week’s Thursday Live Lesson. We write up all of the questions and include their timestamps down in the lesson description so you can easily navigate to the exact spot, I believe Aldrine covers you question around the 11:45 mark. If you have any other questions, feel free to send them our way. This is probably the best place to leave your questions if you would like Aldrine to answer it on the Thursday Live Lesson. If you are free on Thursdays, you can watch our lessons LIVE, if not you can always check out the REPLAYS. We also do Aloha Friday Jam every week and would love to see you there. It’s a fun way to practice while hanging out and relaxing. You can catch that LIVE, or check out the REPLAYS. Thank you for being a part of UU, and if you need anything else, just let me know!
Aloha

Been trying to figure out how to chunk for a while and have not been able to get it. By the time I made it through this video, I almost had it down. Thanks for the help.
A great lesson!
This lesson helped me a lot!! I was totally doing the chunking wrong! Thank you!
Fantastic class – awesome series ! Mahalo !
Great lesson, finally now I know what a CHUNK is! The chunk will come much faster than the roll but all in good time. Get some sleep you look tired! Aloha
Yes got it! Thanks man this is great. Adds alot of sound to the playing.
OK I am really hard time with this
Very fun lesson, this is great! Nice job.
I am so loving these lessons. On week 4 and am envisioning how to do all these techniques; writing all the lessons in my journal and awaiting the arrival of my Ibanez concert quilted maple uke. Without a vision the people perish. This instrument will bring happiness to my entire family, I can feel it. Thank you Mr Guierra for you vision to bring this happiness to the world 🙂
I find chunking very hard to learn and it makes me sad
I just had an epiphany. I was strumming DUDU and then hitting the strings with the inside of my thumb for the chunk, followed by UDU strums. Now I see I have to first strum the third D and immediately thumb mute. It sounds much better now.
These lessons are great! Thank you!
Sweet! I can chunk n’ roll! Gonna try out chunking with the previous lesson’s “Sunday Morning” now for review. Thanks for the great tutorials.
Haha yessss!! I finally learned how to roll!!
getting the hang of the chunking but my fingers are uncordinated lol good lesson
Like that chunkin’!
This is fun. Thank you!
