Learn to play an easy version of "Wagon Wheel" by Old Crow Medicine Show on Ukulele
On this lesson of Songs Made Easy, you'll learn how to play "Wagon Wheel" originally written by Bob Dylan and later completed by Old Crow Medicine Show. This catchy country tune is definitely a favorite at bars, but the prominent E chord makes it a little harder for jam sessions. Luckily for this version, Aldrine teaches you the song in the Key of G, avoiding that pesky E chord all together. He shows you how to play the 4 simple chords and a somewhat lengthy (but manageable) chord pattern. Aldrine also simplifies the strumming so you can focus on singing those great "Rock me Mama" lyrics.
If you want to learn "Wagon Wheel" in its original key of A, check out our Uke Lesson. To stay truer to Darius Rucker's famous cover, Aldrine teaches you a swingin' strumming pattern and a bonus picking solo. Every now and then, we like to jam "Wagon Wheel on our Aloha Friday Jam. If you want to challenge yourself and play along in the original key, you can check out this Jam Replay. To make things a little easier, Aldrine does demonstrate how to play an E7 chord that you can play instead of the Dreaded E.
