Hey UUers!

It's time to celebrate - your very own monthly episode of Uke Lessons has arrived! 2017 marks the 50th Anniversary of the iconic Beatles album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, so this month we've brought to you an ukulele tutorial of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds for your listening and uke-playing pleasure. Check out the video above to learn the chords, strumming pattern, and picking pattern to this very interesting and weird song to expand your musical horizons and share with family and friends.

Although the song seems to be pretty easy with its basic chords and a simple fingerpicking pattern, don't let it fool you. This one will take some time to practice and learn especially because it jumps through 3 different keys (one each for the verse, pre-chorus, and chorus) and 2 different time signatures (the verse & pre-chorus are in 3/4 while the chorus is in 4/4 time). The Beatles were definitely having some creative fun when writing this song and it's pretty certain that you will too while learning it. Take it slow, try out the different parts and let us know what you think!

Be sure to play along with the ukulele Play-Along and if you have any questions, let us know - we're here to help you figure it all out. Have a great one & keep strummin'

Aloha,
-UU Staff

    1. Hey Tony!

Nice catch! The Tab sheet follows the Play-Along Video and actual song exactly, so follow that. There were a couple times in the Tutorial video where Aldrine didn’t have the timing quite right, but it’s a complicated song so there were bound to be a few. Be sure to use the Play-Along video and the tab sheet to really get the feel for the correct changes and let us know if you have any questions!

      Aloha,
      -Aaron (& the UU Staff)

  1. Guys, there’s an inconsistency between the video and tab sheet. On the tab sheet, Verse, 4th time has F#m one strum and Dm with three strums. The video has F#m with two strums and Dm with two strums.

  2. Thank you guys. Once again you hit the nail on the head, sort of speak.. Rock On and Inner Peace to You All. UU+ for Life
