Hey UUers!

Are you ready? Break out your ukulele and gather up a few friends, because it's time for a good old-fashioned sing-along! On this month's episode of Uke Lessons, it's everyone's favorite, "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King. This one is perfect for get-togethers, backyard barbecues, uke club meetings - once you start playing, it's hard not to sing right along with the chorus.

With its simple chords and steady strumming pattern, the hardest part of this song would be the picking, which uses The Tremolo Technique. For those of you who are UU+ Members, Aldrine discussed the Tremolo Technique with a full explanation and discussion, during a recent Live Lesson Thursday. Check out the replay HERE (the discussion starts at around 0:19:00 in the video). Of couse, you can always play the picking part to this song without the tremolo, but the idea is to emulate the violin parts in the original song, so be sure to work on the technique and you'll get a really cool sound out of your ukulele.

Have a blast playing this tune, be sure to play along with the Play-Along video, and as always if there's anything you need, just send a message and you got it! Keep strummin'

  1. Aloha! At the top it says: “Download the TAB for this picking:”….. but it’s not there. Can it be posted here or is it available on the paid site?
I’d like to attempt to learn this beautiful arrangement but I may need to get a tenor since my soprano only has 12 frets. But it’s going to take awhile to get to that section.

    1. Hey Gay, thanks so much for checking out the Stand By Me Ukulele Lesson! So sorry about that, the page should be fixed now, so you can download the TABs for the picking. As always, if you have any questions or need any help with your playing, just send a message, and you got it. Have a great one, keep strummin’

  2. Sounds amazing! The greatest arrangment, but it’s quite difficult! Will come back after learning something easier 🙂

  3. This was so fun! I just recently started playing again and a friend told me your website was a great place to relearn. My ukulele only has 12 frets, but for the violin part you used the 16th fret, I think my ukulele is a soprano. What type of ukulele did you use in the video?

  4. Awesome arrangement. I love it Aldrine. It’s my favourite song. Thank you very very much. Now I have to practice it.

  5. A great tune even for an 83.year old with only two years on the uke..self taught..thanks for your encouragement..from Sydey Australia

    1. And here I thought I was too old to start! Just turned 72! This one has me stumped though. Need more 15 minute Aldrine sessions. Uke on!

  6. Been in kind of a rut lately. Thanks for this song. Haven’t got the picking down yet, but do have the chords. It’s fun playing along
