UU's 2010 NAMM Show Coverage

This weeks MVOW comes from Proffesor Palmer and his most beautiful rendition of “Most beautiful girl in the room” from Flight of the conchords. Watch as he sensually strums that uke and softly touch and pick the strings. Sweet overdubs, harmony, and drums and bass. You’re a legend Palmer.

Voting for the undies is CLOSED. Thanks so much for tossing in your votes! Stay tuned for the Undie awards show to see who won. Also, if you haven’t already, please fill out a quick survey for us by clicking HERE. This information will help us serve you better.

A couple of the UU guys are flying out to California this week. Make sure to check out the shows and meetups if you’re in the area.

Let’s kick the doors open for this awesome new week ahead of us. Keep uke’n and jam like Publishers Clearing House is ringing your doorbell. Peace out homies.

Got a question about flat picks? Post it HERE!

Hey UUers!

In the world of ukulele playing, the use of picks is a subject often overlooked (and sometimes vehemently shunned), but there are still those who use them and a few that actually prefer them – so in this week’s episode of Uke Minutes, Aldrine goes over the use of flat picks!

Of the types of flat pick materials out there, felt and rubber are the most commonly used picks for ukuleles. Flat picks are made out of many other materials including different types of plastic, metal, glass, wood, or stone. But be careful with picks made of harder substances (especially if you don’t have a pick guard on your uke) as you can easily damage your soundboard when you start strummin’ up a storm. So give picks a try … you might just find something you like!

Tomorrow (Sunday) will be the last day to vote for your favorite ukulele videos for the 2009 Ukulele Underground Awards (“The Undies!”), so be sure to go over to our Voting Page and cast your ballot:

And if you haven’t yet filled out our little visitor’s survey, check it out and submit that one, too! January in Twenty-Ten is looking and smelling pretty good so far – let’s make this year an awesome one! Play on.

Aloha,

Why2ki is sick and missed a Beatles cover band show; so what does he do? Pick up the uke, play a Beatles tune, and have a cover concert of his own. The result? This week’s (and the last of 2009) MVOW with his rendition of “Nowhere man” by The Beatles. This kid is an optimistic fella who turned to his 4 stringed friend and transformed his room to his very own concert hall. Crazy? Yes, crazy AWESOME.

The year is coming to a close. Just a few more days and boxes of fireworks and it’s 2010. Time flies by so quickly doesn’t it? Seems like only yesterday we had our first UU Open mic, or uke give away, or UU Undies. None of which would have been possible if it wasn’t for ALL OF YOU! So thanks once again for everything. You guys are awesome possum (yes, possums are highly awesome… not just cause it rhymes) From all of us, to all of you; HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It’s been a little over 2 years and we watched our little community grow and it’s all thanks to YOU GUYS. You folks are the best presents EVAR. Complete with frilly ribbons and bows.
