This one was just too good for us to pass up for MVOW: new Forum member Bradlands teamed up with OG UU member keonepax to create an amazing rendition of “Never My Love” by the Association. Excellent everything. Harmonies, editing, song choice, execution, playing. Keep this one in mind for next year’s Undies!

Speaking of which, The 2009 Ukulele Underground Award Show (“The Undies!”) will be going down this Saturday (at 2pm Hawaii Time)! So tune in right here on the UU front page as we give away awards, random prizes to viewers, and lots and lots of uke love.

On this week’s episode of Uke Minutes, Aldrine breaks down the concept of “triplets” in music and how you can apply it to your ukulele playing. Use triplets to indicate breaks between sections of a song or play around with them in your strumming or picking to emphasize specific parts of the song!

This week on MVOW we have an awesome medley of song’s by one of the most influential figures in ukulele. B.Uke and D.Uke have made a medley of Jake Shimabukuro’s songs and mashed them up beautifully.

These types of arrangements aren’t easy, so to tackle something like this is quite a feat. We’re proud of the many accomplishments that are achieved everyday in our community. From getting down their first chord, to arranging their own music; You guys have been growing and we love seeing all the progress. Keep up all the awesome work.

Happy February UU’ers! It’s the start of a new month but I’m sure we’ll be up to the same antics as last month (if not more) This week on MVOW we have a cover of “Colorful” from the movie ROCKSTAR. AbeSchmidt rocks out this song with complete ukulele intensity and crazy vocals. Nice blend of both. Check out more of his stuff on his YouTube channel. A really talented fella that one, and he knows that he can be colorful.

It’s Saturday – do you know where your children are? (Probably watching another awesome episode of Uke Minutes!). This week on Uke Minutes, we bring you an alternative to the thumb-intensive Strum-Picking Technique. In the original Strum-Picking episode (Uke Minutes 26), Aldrine showed you a method for picking individual strings, while muting the rest. Here, you can bypass the whole thumb factor altogether and replace it with a single ring finger mute. PLUS – add harmony! Try it out for yourself, let us know what you think, and if you’ve got question, ask away!
