Question [FOUND] The Andrews Sisters - Rum and Coca-Cola

    Hello ukuleleunderground.com

I am searching for the chords of the song by The Andrews Sisters : Rum and Coca-Cola. It seems that there is only two or three chords for this song but I'm newbie on Ukulele and my tries to find it by myself on my uke are good to put in the trash... So maybe someone here have the chords or can recognize the chords ?

Thank you by advance (and sorry for my poor english).

This is the song shared on youtube : The Andrews Sisters - Rum and Coca-Cola.

Yes, it's just two chords. In the case of the YouTube clip you linked, they are Bb and F7. (technically, I think it's an F7/C, but don't worry about that.)

You might find it easier to play in a different key. In C, the chords would be C and G7. In A, they're A and E7.

    Whaou Ukulele JJ !

My first tries I was starting with the C chord but while I was playing it
during the song, it doesn't sound like the song... With the Bb chord it's
excellent, thank you very much (and yes the Bb is much harder for me, but I
prefer it as you can imagine)

I have a little question for you if you care. This is the way I play it :

Pay attention to the Chord XX which is almost the same as the Chord F7. I think
this chord sound better with the song, what do you think ?

I named it CHORD XX because I didn't found it on my chords reference page...

    Code:
    == CHORD Bb ==========     == CHORD F7 ==========     == CHORD XX ==========
    $$-0-+---+---+---+---+1 $$---+---+-0-+---+---+4 $$---+---+---+---+---+
    $$-0-+---+---+---+---+1 $$-0-+---+---+---+---+1 $$-0-+---+---+---+---+1
    $$-0-+-0-+---+---+---+2 $$---+---+-0-+---+---+3 $$---+---+-0-+---+---+3
    $$-0-+---+-0-+---+---+3 $$---+-0-+---+---+---+2 $$---+-0-+---+---+---+2

             Bb --------------
    Drinkin' rum and coca-cola
    Bb ------------ F7 - XX
    Go down Point Koomahnah
    XX ---------------------
    Both mother and daugther
    XX -------------------- Bb --
    Workin' for the Yankee dollar
I am using F7 only on the 'Koo' as you can see, and the rest with the XX...

Do you think it is good ? And do you know the name of this XX Chord please ?
Is it the F7/C that you spoke ?

Thank you for you attention, and again sorry for my english...

Your XX chord is basically an F7 without the C note anywhere in it. Both the first and fourth strings are "doubling" on the same note (which is an A).

I can see how that would work. On an F7 chord, the C is the "fifth" of the chord (because it's the fifth note in an F major scale). With (whatever)7 chords, the fifth is actually the least-important note in the chord, and you can often safely get rid of it.

So if it sounds good, go for it!

Very nice! Looks like that took a lot of work. Whew!

I think I might have mislead you a bit in my explanation. Technically, in the Andrew Sisters version, they're playing a F7/C all the time (when they're not playing the Bb, that is!).

But in your version, you're playing an F7 and then your "XX" chord, which could really be called an F7(omit 5). It's not actually an F7/C.

And that's fine. This is your own ukulele arrangement, which can certainly be different than what a full band would play. I just played it on my uke, and it sounded nice to me.
