Hey all you awesome people of the Underground!

It’s the first of the month (Happy February to you), and that means a brand new episode of Uke Lessons! We’re breaking it down with an ukulele instrumental version of Carlos Santana’s, Europa. It’s quick, it’s dirty, it’s even got a space for you to improv your very own solo in D minor. Scha-weet! It’s been awhile since the last time we did an instrumental piece, so try it out and let us know what you think.

February is also the official month of the Ukulele Underground Award Show (“The Undies!”), where we celebrate your favorite ukulele videos of the past year. Yay! We’ll also be giving away a TON of stuff during the show, so keep an eye on the front page for the date and time, so you can tune in to watch & win!

It’s the first episode of Uke Lessons for the new year and we’re bringing the heat with an Eric Clapton classic, “Change The World”, featuring the vocal stylings of our very own tsud123! This one is a little tougher than usual but we know you’re up to the challenge. Practice the fingerings, chord changes, and picking and you’ll have another Clapton hit under your belt in a flash!

We’re going to do our very best to make UU even awesomer in 2010, so if you got the time and mouse-clicking skills to complete the new UU Survey, please do (we’ll totally love you forever for it). This month’s lesson, we must say, is pretty epic. It’s a song by a band in Hawaii called Kolohe Kai who released their first album in September this year which shot up to #1 on the local music charts, where it currently stands. And the awesomest part: Kolohe Kai’s ukulele player (Noah Cronin / KoloheBoy on the Forum) is a longtime member of UU! So when he contacted us last month, we were all high fives and jumpkicks to go meet up with the Kolohe Kai crew for a lesson.

Happy Halloween! Alright people, get ready for another awesome episode of Uke Lessons! We’re about to stir it up with some sweet reggae music from Bob Marley – a song called “Guava Jelly” – to satisfy your soul. We were jammin’ this song while we were in California for UU Tour 2009 and thought it would make a good lesson. So put it on, get into that mellow mood, and lively up yourself, because November’s episode of Uke Lessons is here!

We also stuck in some never-before-seen footage from the first half of UU Tour 2009, so if you came out to see us in Southern California, check out the video – you just might see YOU. So we’re kicking off UU Tour 2009 with a special present for you: a brand new Uke Lesson on the classic 80’s song, “True” by Spandau Ballet. This is one of those awesome pop songs that has stood the test of time and melodically wriggled its way into all things – TV (The Office, The Simpsons, King of Queens …), Movies (The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, and pretty much every other Adam Sandler Movie), other songs (Nelly’s “N Dey Say”, Lloyd’s “I Want You”, etc.), and most of all, our hearts. It’s the song that keeps on giving. So check it out and let us know what you think!

Ok, now we all know how many of you are Colbie Caillat fans (c’mon … you know you like her songs) so we came up with the perfect lesson to suit all your CC needs! This month’s lesson comes straight off of her new album, Breakthrough – the ridiculously catchy single, “Fallin’ For You”.
