This is why we love the Underground. Over the past three years, Ukulele Underground has seen the coming together of so many ukulele players from many countries, over many continents, and across a wide range of ages and musical interests to create amazing and wonderful music. Projects like this have popped up organically through the UU Forum, sometimes for pure pleasure, sometimes to deal with loss, but always as a way to promote harmony and peace in the world.

In this video 43 musicians, many of them UUers, came together because of this thread posted by musicmonsterw. Here, they blend ukes, vocals, talent, and a slew of other instruments to create a musical Christmas card for the world.

This week’s member video of the week goes to Two Blokes who have been ukein’ online for two whole years now! 2 blokes, 2 ukes, 2 years! That’s gotta be something lucky, right?? (For a full list of the videos they’ve posted within two years’ time, click HERE). In all of their videos, these guys show complete disregard for what anyone might consider “serious” musicianship, but they are having so much fun that you can’t help but smile and sing along . This is what the ukulele is all about – having fun, finding a real connection with the music you love, and sharing that joy with others. Take a look, Subscribe to their channel, and request a song for them to cover (in the boldest, most amusing, sing-along style you can imagine).

As the summer winds down and we head off towards the holiday season, we hope you spent a little time frolicking around in the summer air with you uke at the ready, eagerly awaiting any opportunity to sing loudly with friends (and provide insanely high harmonies, when needed). Hey UUers!

Hey have you heard of Jake Loew? Whaaat?? (We hadn’t either until he started hanging out in the Underground ). But check out this week’s Member Video of the Week and it’ll make you think maybe you should have! He’s already released two albums and a demo of uke music, and while one might easily dismiss Jake at first glance as just “another video of a guy playing ukulele,” listen closer and you’ll realize he’s taking this ukulele thing pretty seriously.

So check it out, bump up those views, and sub the heck out of his YouTube channel, so he makes more cool experimental uke music for our ears to hear.

So there I was, sipping on my MONDAY coffee and decided to check out what was on UU. Went to the video section to start my week off with some ukin and clicked on a thread linking to the video above. Next thing I knew, I no longer had a face to sip my coffee because it just completely melted off upon watching this video. After cleaning up the spill, I figured it’d be a perfect time to announce this week’s Member Video Of the Week.

Member Adrien starts off this cover of Steve Vai’s “For the love of God” with some impressive Vai arpeggios then follows it up with some acoustic picking and ends it with some crazy-intense-rockin-out-of-this-world distortion and drum work. All of that madness in an electric four string. Oh yeah. Score one for ukulele players everywhere! Hit the subscribe button and raise that awesome number HERE.

Hey UUers!

This week’s Member Video of the Week goes to long-time UUer, Khrome, with her cover of the 80′s hit, “The Promise” by When in Rome (also known as the ‘end credits song’ for all you Napoleon Dynamite fans).

The thing is, we’ve known Khrome in the Underground for a couple years now and only recently (like a month ago) she began posting videos on YouTube. And this is the first video she’s actually shown her face in! This is UU history in the making, right here Oh yeah, the fact that she played the song on an ukulele and a Nintendo DS is pretty sweet, as well.

Hello UU’ers!

It’s Monday and you know what that means… MVOW! This week we picked from the pool of videos from the “Member video of the week” thread. Lots of great videos on that thread. We stumbled upon this great original song from member adie227 called “Hold on tight” really nice solo tune with a nice and simple touch on it. No fancyness, just straight out uke and vocals. It worked really well and it turned out awesome!

Keep strummin on peeps! We love featuring people with gusto and love for the uke!

This week on MVOW we have Dianalele with her rendition of “Ignition remix” by R Kelly. She jams on this awesome classic “let me tell you about my weekend” song while she runs her hands through her fro. From her guitar and ukulele work to her plastic bag high hat and violin skills. She puts her own flare into it and makes it fun. Haters gonna hate but she’s just thuggin it out. Hahaha but seriously folks. Go check out this piece of awesome.

Hello all you ukers! Monday is here and you know what that means, MVOW time! That and the start of a new work week for some of you (Looks like someone’s got the case of the Mondays) This Memorial day we got MikeTodd with his very own original song about Bob the builder called “Can they fix this” It makes us realize that everyone has a love story. MikeTodd gives us a glimpse in the life of Bob.
