Good news, everyone! It has been awhile since the last Ukulele Underground give-away contest, so here we go again – This time we are giving you a chance to win a brand new KoAloha KTM-00 Tenor Uke along with a YEAR membership for UU+!

The August 2011 UU “Ambassadors of Ukulele” Contest hopes to inspire everyone to share the joy of ukulele with others, so for this contest, here’s what you have to do:

1. Send an email to ukuleleunderground(at)gmail.com with “Ambassadors of Ukulele Contest” in the Subject line.
2. Explain how you will use your new KoAloha Uke and one year membership to UU+ to spread the joy of ukulele.

Extra points & consideration will be given for creativity, honesty, and enthusiasm!

Alternately, you may nominate another worthy ukulele player by describing what they do to spread the joy of ukulele why they deserve to win the Ambassadors of Ukulele Contest.

One entry per person.
Deadline: August 31st, 2011

Hey UUers!

So last month (July 2010) we held the Eleuke “Uke Rock!” Ukulele Contest where we asked you to submit a video of any rock-related song played on the ukulele for a chance to win one of FOUR Eleuke Ukuleles!

The judges from EleukeUSA and UU watched, debated, and watched again all of the amazingly sweet entries to the contest and have finally decided on the winners. Watch the odd, yet entertainingly creative, video that the kind people at EleukeUSA put together to announce the winners and give a hearty round of applause to everyone who entered!

Hey UUers!

Last month on UU, we held the Kanile’a “Spread the Aloha” Video Contest where we asked UUers to submit videos that showed how they spread aloha with their ukulele! Up for grabs was a one-of-a-kind UU-branded Kanile’a Tenor Ukulele. (For pics of the uke & info on the contest, check out the Official Contest Thread).

After poring over all of the videos and much deliberation, the judges from both UU and Kanile’a finally came up with the winners. Check out the video above to find out who won (or watch the winning video HERE)!

Hey UUers!

Here’s a great way to add a little variation to your chords! A while back on Uke Minutes, we taught you about Alternate Chord Positions, so when you are playing with others, you can play the same chord but in a higher register. With Added Octave Chord Inversions, you can quickly add a higher note in the same key without having to change your current chord position! Check it out and let us know what you think!

Also, this month we’re giving away one of the most amazing custom ukuleles we’ve ever gotten! It’s a special, one of a kind, UU-branded Kanilea Tenor Ukulele from the very cool people over at Kanile’a Ukulele.

We’ve been waiting for this contest for a long time and now, it’s finally here! This month we are about to give away a one-of-a-kind, UU-branded, Kanile’a Tenor Ukulele from Kanile’a Ukuleles!

The ukulele is beautiful, lightweight, sweet-sounding, easy to play – and it could be yours! Here’s how:

1. Play your ukulele and make a video for the contest
2. Upload your video to YouTube
3. Submit the link to your video in the Official Kanile’a Contest Thread

Contestants will be judged on creativity, originality, and how they “Spread the Aloha” using their ukulele. In Hawaii, the “Aloha Spirit” is a positive attitude or frame of mind. It includes sharing, caring for others, helping, being kind, cooperating, and solving problems harmoniously. So be creative & show us your ukulele Aloha!

One entry per contestant (so do your best & make it count!). Last day to enter is June 30th, 2010.

Are you excited? We are! This month, up for grabs is a brand spankin’ new Tenor Mya-Moe Pacific NW Aloha Series Ukulele! Picture this: solid myrtle body, mahogany neck, ebony fretboard, geared tuners, pearl inlays, low G, and plays like a dream. And it could be YOURS. How, you ask??

Mya-Moe April 2010 Contest: “From Our House to Yours”
1. Make a video of a song about a place you consider home.
2. Upload it to YouTube
3. Post it on the Official Mya-Moe Contest Thread in the UU Forum

Rules: At the beginning of your video, mention the Mya-Moe/UU “From Our House to Yours” Contest. You must play an ukulele in your video. Only one entry per person (so do your best!).

As for the song, it can be either an original or a cover (just be sure to acknowledge the writer/performer of the song). The notion of ‘home’ could be anything – your room, your house, your town, your country, your planet – anywhere that you consider ‘home’.

Entries will be judged on creativity, passion, and how well the song reflects how you feel about your ‘home’. Anyone with a good idea could win it, regardless of ukulele skill, so have fun with it! Last day to submit entries will be April 30th, 2010.

Just in case you missed our little announcement in the post for This Month’s Lesson, we’re going to be giving away a brand new Ohana Ukulele to one of YOU at the end of this month!

How do you win it? All you need to do is write your own “Legend of The Ohana Ukulele” (<200 words) and post it in THIS THREAD. You only get one entry (we’ll count your first one), so run your spell check and polish it up before you hit the “submit” button! But don’t wait too long – this contest runs only until August 31, 2009.
