Posted April 27th, 2010
Hey UUers!
So this has been a dream of ours for a very long time, and now it is finally here – Ukulele Underground University!!
What it is: Ukulele Underground University is a LIVE virtual classroom where you can get quality ukulele instruction (from Aldrine!) and learn to play the ukulele alongside other excited, aspiring uke players – no matter where you live in the world!

Where/When: Courses will run for 10 weeks (Starting on May 8th) on Saturdays. Depending on where you are in the world, we will try our best to create classroom time slots you can choose from that are most convenient for you. All you need is an internet connection to watch & play along! Aldrine will also hold office hours each week to answer all of your questions & you may submit videos every week so we can watch, make suggestions, and monitor your progress!
How Much: Classes will be $15 per lesson for any of the 10-week courses. We’ll be offering Ukulele 101, Ukulele 102, and Music Theory for the Ukulele, to start. If you Register for a course, once classes start, you will also gain access to a special section of the Forum where you can talk with other students in the class!
Why: Since Ukulele Underground was started, we’ve done our best to provide video lessons, video tips & techniques, ukulele Q&A, and live streaming ukulele content so anyone who is interested in the ukulele may learn how to play it. After trying and testing every avenue of instruction, we are finally able to present what we feel is the fastest, most effective, & most interactive online learning experience to improve your skills and get you playing the ukulele in no time. We hope you like it!
Ukulele Underground will still continue to provide you with quality monthly Uke Lessons, weekly Uke Minutes, Uke Got Mail episodes, and Live Lesson Wednesdays, just like always. But for those of you who don’t have the time to sift through our sizable video archive to find what you absolutely need to know, Ukulele Underground University is here to guide you, every step of the way.

I think its a cool idea to have classes put up but its stupid to make everyone pay for them. This isn't a real school that needs money to keep buying text books food and Etc. It's online, there should be no profit involved.
uhm, these people are providing a valuable service, using a lot of their time and effort to teach those who want to learn. they already do a lot of free tutorials of different songs for free, so let them make a little bit of money by teaching techniques, etc. just because it's online it doesn't mean it should be free. voice lessons don't require food and textbooks either, but you still expect to pay the teacher who uses his or her time to teach you.
It is pretty hard to find a good ukulele teacher plus not all of us can go to a private class because of time restriction and some commitments. I think UUU is a good way to help other people learn and progress in playing ukulele!
Saying it should be free makes no sense. These people need to make a living.
Anyway I wish the times would be more GMT friendly (like 12 pm HST (10 pm GMT))
But good job anyway
Maybe next semester?
I was trying to register for Uke 101 and found out they don't have an option for guys outside of the US like me. Sure wish I could enroll.
Hmm…I guess as a Canadian, I won't be able to enroll. Note to the University, expand the reach of your curriculum.
Stupid to make everyone pay for them? They've BEEN offering the BEST online video tutorials AND live video chats for FREE… this is OPTIONAL and it's intended for people who want to take it to the next level. You won't find deals nearly as affordable, private lessons will run you up $50 to $75 EASILY. Just because it's online doesn't mean it should be free, most learning sites charge you from the get go. You should appreciate the fact that UU offers so many awesome freebies and respect their hard work at the very least.
The billing page only provides for the US. If this is really your intention, please make it clearer in your info video that these classes are only for those in the states. Or else people would just be wasting time planning to attend. Also, for those in the states, how do you enroll for just one class?
What's the start date for the next semester?
Aloha!
Thanks for sharing the site, and lessons!
