This week for our MVOW we feature messyhair and her just posted cover of Emil Chau’s “Ai Xiang Sui

Sounds like a really fun and chill song to play on the ukulele. The tambourine and low harmony adds a little cherry on top of this already awesome performance. Overall, she looked like she enjoyed herself. Check out her YouTube channel for more cherries and awesome performances.

The video and song shows us that the ukulele and all its awesomeness is past that language barrier. It can be enjoyed by anyone in any native tongue. No longer is it limited to traditional Hawaiian music or your typical “Hapa Haole” tunes. Music is definitely universal and breaking all sorts of barriers. It’s only a matter of time till we get the first ukulele in outer space! Wouldn’t that be awesome?

Hopefully your summer is just full of peaches. Let’s kick this week off right and rock out with your uke out.

Got questions about augmented chords? Post them HERE!

Hey all you shiny, happy people of the Underground! It’s Uke Minutes time! This week on Uke Minutes, Aldrine goes into some of the music theory behind augmented chords. Augmented chords are really similar to suspended chords (Uke Minutes 43). But instead of substituting the 3-note in your major chord, you’ll be substituting the 5-note. Check out the video and start playing around with some awesomely augmented chords!

Hope everything is going great in your ukulele-flavored world! Be sure to stop by and tell us all about it in the UU Forum – have an amazing Saturday!

Aloha,

This one was just posted to the UU Forum, but what better way to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Apollo moon landing than “Fly Me to the Moon” as covered by our very own JT_Ukes!? JT has been looking noticeably trimmer lately, as he’s been the driving force behind the UU Biggest Loser Challenge, which just rounded out Week 6 of their 12-week competition. Awesome job, JT, way to go!

This past weekend
was crazy, exciting, fun, amazing, & absolutely spectacular! Click to check out some pics from the UU Meetup at Kaka’ako Park, taken by super-cool UUer, tanega.

Hope everyone’s Monday is looking great! Peace out, ukulele playas.
